ABSTRACT
In the view of their ability to be uptaken by cells, colloidal particles can exert diverse physiological effects and are promising vehicles for intracellular delivery biologically active substances. Given that modulation biomaterial interfaces greatly facilitates prediction control corresponding cellular responses, interfacial behavior hydrophobic dye-modified gold (Au) nanoclusters (Au NCs) is rationally designed develop Au NC-containing emulsions biointerfacial interactions with cell membranes. The observed biological performance indicative a physical penetration mechanism. amphiphilic NCs decrease energy two immiscible liquids hinder droplet coalescence facilitate formation thermodynamically stabilized dipole-dipole interactions. Moreover, localized on emulsion surface form segregated microdomains adapt membrane structure traverse across via direct penetration. Fast coupled excellent photophysical endows multifluorescence tracing efficient photothermal killing capabilities. successful change interaction mode between objects provision universal formulation modulate expected inspire new bioapplications.
