ABSTRACT
Background Nasal closure has been shown to effectively manage severe epistaxis refractory other treatments in patients with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT). The nasal procedure may be underutilized because of its surgical complexity and flap breakdown. Methods This work is a retrospective review 13 HHT treated for between 2005 2013. Operating room (OR) time, need revision surgery, preprocedure, postprocedure severity score (ESS), complete blood count values, Glasgow Benefit Inventory (GBI) questionnaire results were collected each patient. technique described. We characterize typical patient compare outcomes based on our experience the traditional 3‐flap simplified 2‐flap procedure. Results average candidate this series had an ESS 7.88, hemoglobin (Hgb) 8.3 g/dL, received multiple transfusions, iron therapy, cautery/coagulation procedures. Average subsequent using method 0.92 mean GBI 56.3. Comparison 5 who underwent 8 receiving showed no significant difference postoperative or metrics. Mean operating times methods 3.12 hours 1.44 ( p = 0.0001). time first was 21.5 months. Conclusion In short‐term follow‐up, comparable effectiveness significantly reduced operative compared method.
