Creating Community – The Introduction of Multi‐Family Therapy for Eating Disorders in Australia

ABSTRACT
It is well established that connection and support are associated with supporting recovery from eating disorders whereas isolation feeling misunderstood can be barriers to change. While the consumer movements have long advocated for treatments go beyond symptom reduction alone include factors such as others, there few designed target these directly young people their families. In 2014 Sydney Children's Hospital Network Eating Disorder Service at The Westmead introduced multi‐family therapy ( MFT ), first program of its kind in Australia, a primary aim being increase solidarity families addition helping promote disorder more broadly. Rooted principles family anorexia nervosa, generally brings together six eight four‐consecutive day workshop followed by single follow‐up workshops over course months. This paper reviews current literature available on , describes introduction specialist tertiary service explores preliminary feedback families, discusses importance creating affected disorders.
