ABSTRACT
Abstract The microstructure of the polyacrylonitrile (PAN)‐stabilized fibers was investigated by X‐ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission (TEM), and high‐resolution (HRTEM). XRD analysis indicated that chemical reactions sped up notably when temperature above 250°C. crosssection SEM image stabilized presented concentric multilayer morphology. TEM images showed lamellar‐like skin compact core disorderly loose. vermiculate‐like crystallites in precursor were transferred to spheres during stabilization process. HRTEM many existed fibers. exterior which had annular structure amorphous phase. inner not completely some crystallite areas. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci,
