ABSTRACT
Packet-optical transport (P-OT) systems and platforms are currently offering a proposed answer to the short term carrier needs in terms of efficient triple play service backhauling aggregation. This paper deals with dual optical bus, an additional alternative that features tighter integration between packet layers. After introducing bus concept discussing its enabling related mechanisms, we focus on one implementation designed for aggregation networks, ring network (DBORN). Original benchmarking results, legacy solutions other alternatives, highlight winning combination statistical multiplexing, passive optics, multicast capabilities presented by bus. The last part introduces discusses potential extensions challenges relying photonic reconfigurable networks including ROADMs. é 2010 Alcatel-Lucent.
