Suicide on Italian Instagram: Insights and implications for prevention and support

ABSTRACT
Abstract Instagram is the social network with largest number of adolescent users in Italy; it also suicide‐related posts. Suicide third leading cause death Italy 15–19 age group. This study aims to describe Italian posts on related suicide and investigate whether there are differences likes, comments, hashtags relation characteristics We searched for Italian‐language by typing ‘#suicidio’, an translation English word ‘suicide’, found 303 between January May 2022. Most were written ordinary people, while only a small percentage professionals; moreover, content was predominantly biographical pro‐suicide, most had no reference adolescence. Posts neutral approach received negative or positive that contained references psychiatric disorders hashtags. These results provide insight regarding guidelines can be implemented online prevention encourage psychologists enhance support using community inherent network.
