ABSTRACT
The conversion of municipal solid waste (MSW) and lignocellulosic biomass blends to methyl ketones (MKs) was investigated by using bioderived ionic liquid (bionic liquid)-based hydrolysates followed fermentation with an engineered Escherichia coli strain. were produced a one-pot process six types MSW-biomass blends, choline-based bionic liquids, commercial enzymes. Based on the sugar yields, one blend (corn stover/MSW=95:5, w/w) two liquids {cholinium lysinate ([Ch][Lys]) cholinium aspartate ([Ch]2 [Asp])} selected for scale-up studies. Maximum yields 82.3 % glucose 54.4 xylose obtained from in studies (6 L), which comparable 83.6 52.8 at smaller scale (0.2 L). Comparable or higher medium-chain (C11 -C17 ) MKs achieved blend-derived hydrolysates, relative controls (glucose xylose) similar feeding concentrations. Up 1145 mg L-1 MSW-biomass-derived MK titer decreased 300 when bionic-liquid concentration hydrolysate increased 1 2 %, indicative inhibition. Technoeconomic analysis conducted investigate economic potential as feedstock produce MKs.
