ABSTRACT
Evidence has lately emerged regarding an increased risk of SARS-CoV-2 with worse prognosis in patients obesity, especially among the young. Weight excess is a well-established respiratory disease factor, and newly reported correlation therefore unsurprising. The underlying pathophysiology likely multi-stranded, ranging from complement system hyperactivation, Interleukin-6 secretion, chronic inflammation, presence comorbidities such as diabetes hypertension, possible local, detrimental effect within lung. Further understanding link between obesity crucial, this could aid proper tailoring immunomodulatory treatments, together improving stratification those possibly requiring critical care.
