Corrosion protection of pure aluminium and aluminium alloy (AA7075) in salt solution with silane‐based sol–gel coatings

Abstract Sol–gel films of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS), phenyltriethoxysilane (PTES) and phenyltrimethoxysilane (PTMS) were prepared on aluminium alloy AA7075 characterised. The corrosion inhibition properties uncoated coated specimens evaluated with potentiodynamic polarisation scan, linear resistance open circuit potential measurements. With scanning electron microscopy optical effects the sol–gel coating shown. Weight loss measurements performed at different pH‐values. More hydrophobic coatings as PTMS show a considerably better capacity compared to provided by less ones TEOS PTES.
