ABSTRACT
Abstract In this article, it is demonstrated that metamaterial transmission lines implemented by means of complementary split rings resonators are useful for the design planar microwave components with small dimensions and broad operational bandwidths. These characteristics achieved thanks to electrical size controllability dispersion diagram in such artificial lines. The technique illustrated a rat‐race hybrid coupler. performance metamaterial‐based component compared those classical (distributed) implementation. It clearly replacing conventional conveniently engineered, functionality device preserved over broader bandwidths and, additionally, significant reduction achieved. absence lumped elements interest applications which cost compatibility fully technology fundamental aspects. most relevant contribution article demonstration between resonant band high components. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
