ABSTRACT
Abstract Most high‐efficiency polarization converters in literatures are based on reflective structures. Here we report the designs and experiments of transmissive using novel compact frequency‐selective surfaces (FSSs). By combining common dipole square ring band‐pass FSSs, a FSS can be generated, whose pass bands phases for two orthogonal polarizations tuned by changing dimensions structure. As demonstrations concept, cross converter (a half‐wave plate) linear‐to‐circular (LP‐CP) quarter‐wave designed tested, respectively. Simulated results show that conversion ratio over 90% cross‐polarization is from 18.5 to 23.5 GHz, about 23.8%, 3‐dB LP‐CP bandwidth 19.6%. Experiments carried out validate both designs.
