ABSTRACT
Graphene oxide (GO) derived from oxidation of natural graphite contains many active groups that can interact with a great variety polar moieties. In this work, polypropylene (PP)/graphene nanocomposites using (PP) grafted amine‐alcohol (PPgDMAE) as compatibilizer were prepared by two different methods. Maleic anhydride PP (PPgMA) was reacted 2‐[2‐(dimethylamine)‐ethoxy] ethanol (DMAE) in the melt for forming functionalized (PPgDMAE). Nanocomposites one method, PP/GO nanocomposite direct mixing an internal batch mixer PPgDMAE compatibilizer. another previous GO hot Xilene done and then, once solvent evaporated, it incorporated into melt‐mixing. The microstructure interface enhancement composites analyzed Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman, X‐ray difraction (DRX) contact angle, scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), mechanical, thermal, electrical properties measurements. (FTIR) revealed interaction between PPgDMAE. loading conducted to enhance composite mechanical attributed strong interfacial interactions A significant improvement thermal stability observed when solution blending method compared method. This work suggests potential application preparation high performance composites. POLYM. COMPOS., 39:1361–1369, 2018. © 2016 Society Plastics Engineers
