ABSTRACT
Abstract Extraction or concentration with temperature‐sensitive hydrogels is a novel separation technology. In this study, N ‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPA) was synthesized by acrylonitrile and isopropanol. Poly( ‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPA) copolymer of NIPA 2‐acrylamide‐2‐methylpropane sulfonate [P(NIPA‐ co ‐AMPS)] were prepared radiation polymerization. Dependence their swelling behavior on temperature studied. Effects dose polymerization, feed composition thermoresponse, electrolyte relative ratio, deswelling kinetics investigated. The experimental results showed that P(NIPA‐ ‐AMPS) low content AMPS/NIPA (1–5 %), at dose‐rate 1 kGy/h total 30–40 kGy, could enhance the ratio PNIPA significantly raise phase‐transition temperatures. produced under optimum conditions used to concentrate aqueous bovine serum albumin (BSA, M = 69 000 g mol −1 ) solution. When BSA below 5 %, efficiency more than 80 % cost energy consumption. Copyright © 2005 Society Chemical Industry
