ABSTRACT
Abstract In the present investigation chemopreventive action and antimutagenic effects of a standardized Panax Ginseng extract (EFLA400, processed ginseng containing high titre ginsenoside Rg3 (>3.0% w[sol ]w) known as Phoenix ) in Swiss albino mice have been evaluated. The oral administration EFLA400 at 1, 3 10 mg[sol ]kg body weight pre, peri post‐initiational phases, showed significant reductions number, size papillomas. A reduction tumour incidence (71.41 ± 6.73%, 72.19 4.54% 70.46 0.38% weight, respectively) was observed animals treated group compared with 100% control group. cumulative number papillomas during an observation period 16 weeks significantly reduced (24 0.94, 1.41 11 respectively). However, average latent increased from 10.81 0.1 to 12.39 0.28 (10 weight). recorded 128.55 8.48, 116.00 8.48 57.5 3.29 mg groups respectively. Chromosomal aberrations micronuclei induction also evaluated bone marrow cells. These genotoxicity end‐points were papilloma occurrence same dose levels carcinogen ginseng. frequencies chromosomal induced by DMBA croton oil observed. maximum decrease than that 1 animals. results study suggest dependent effectiveness chemoprevention antimutagenicity mice.
