ABSTRACT
The effects of Zataria multiflora (Z. multiflora) and its constituent, carvacrol, in guinea pigs model chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) were examined. Animals divided into control, COPD, COPD + drinking water containing three concentrations extract Z. (0.4, 0.8 1.6 mg/ml), carvacrol (60, 120 240 µg/ml) dexamethasone (50 µg/ml). was induced by exposing animals to cigarette smoke for 3 months. Emphysema as a pathological change the lung tracheal responsiveness measured (n = 5 control groups n 6 another groups). Tracheal (p < 0.05) emphysema significantly increased 0.001) compared group. treated with two higher highest concentration improved Studied parameters also group 0.05 p 0.01). results indicated preventive effect on changes lung.
