ABSTRACT
Elpasolite Cs 2 AgBiBr 6 also known as double perovskite has been touted in recent years a promising alternative to the lead‐based for light harvesting. Its structure and properties mainly stem from replacement of Pb 2+ cation with pair aliovalent silver (Ag + ) bismuth (Bi 3+ cations. Although elpasolite exhibits improved stability, its photophysical device performance are inferior those Pb‐based perovskites. To date, numerous efforts have geared toward development efficient solar cells. However, indirect, wide bandgap high exciton binding energy limited such efforts. This attributed low (zero) electronic dimensionality (0D), formation small polaronic states, interfacial imperfections charge transporting layers. In this review, different aspects relation compositional interlayer interactions cell discussed, suitability photovoltaic application is assessed, accompanied by potential measures further advance performance. An alternate photocatalysis, which takes advantage less toxicity better discussed.
