ABSTRACT
A soil strain ofStreptomyces felleus resistant to the herbicide bromoxynil (BX) and capable of supporting growth of sensitive streptomycetes on a BX-containing medium, was found to decrease the concentration of BX in the medium to one half after 10 d of incubation. Physicochemical methods showed that a co-metabolic process without any accumulation of the degradation products similar to BX was involved. Mutation experiments carried out with the strain suggest a nonchromasomal control of the resistance to BX.
