ABSTRACT
Cytogenetic, flow cytometric, cytophotometric and morphometric analyses were performed on 22 previously untreated, primary solid breast carcinomas. Although the cell nuclei as object of these studies same in all tumors, distinct features evaluated each case to determine what degree results obtained by techniques are comparable. From cytogenetic viewpoint, six tumors had a modal number diploid range, seven triploid two tetraploid range; no number. These data correlate with cytometry cytophotometry obtained, DNA values slightly higher than their respective chromosomal modes. However, correspondence between modes mean nuclear area was found. Chromosomal markers have been identified that particulary affect chromosomes 1 (p11, q21-qter), 11 16, although common existed cases. Cytogenetics is most sensitive technique, but low yield (22 out 140 assayed) considerably restricts its value any prospective cancer study.
