ABSTRACT
Abstract Sorption properties of paper products are important when applying as the packaging material. Hydrophobicity, i.e. reduced affinity surface to liquid water, is particular importance from point view direct impact on packed goods. However, hygroscopicity material significant during storage The analysis changes in hygroscopic induced by treatment with silane modified starch was presented. results treated were related previously published hydrophobicity. discrete values equilibrium moisture content allowed constructing adsorption and desorption isotherms. three-parameter Guggenheim, Anderson, De Boer (GAB) model, four-parameter Generalized D’Arcy Watt (GDW), Yanniotis Blahovec (Y-B) sorption isotherm models used quantify for all options untreated samples. effectiveness silanes improving determined compared their hydrophobicity studied materials. It found that 1H, 2H, 2H-perfluorooctyltriethoxysilane only hydrophobic properties. applied isotherms depicted GAB model not valid describing water case tested materials, while GDW Y-B provided a much more realistic description mechanisms. evaluation fitting indicated molecules bonding primary sites dominating mechanism sorption.
