ABSTRACT
Abstract Chromochloris zofingiensis is a potential source of natural astaxanthin; however, its rapid growth and astaxanthin enrichment cannot be achieved simultaneously. This study established autotrophic, mixotrophic, heterotrophic preculture patterns to assess their ameliorative effect on the C. state. In comparison, mixotrophic (MP) exhibited best improving biomass concentration (up 121.5 g L −1 ) in 20 fermenter, reaching global leading level. The productivity 111 mg day , 7.4-fold higher than record. transcriptome 13 C tracer-based metabolic flux analysis were used for mechanism inquiry. results revealed that MP promoted carotenoid lipid synthesis, supported synthesis preference low unsaturated fatty acids represented by C18:1 C16:0. group maintained via mastering balance between increasing glucose metabolism inhibition synthesis. strategy optimized physiological state realized high-density an excellent yield pilot scale. exhibits great application microalgae-related industry.
