ABSTRACT
Abstract Background Although deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap breast reconstruction is the most widely used technique for autologous reconstruction, this leads to large scars in visible areas on and abdomen. So far, limited studies have thoroughly addressed impact of abdominal satisfaction Health-related Quality Life (HR-QoL). Objectives This research aimed determine whether women with no/minor scar symptoms after undergoing DIEP-flap differ perceived HR-QoL from symptomatic scars. Materials Methods In cross-sectional survey study, who had previously undergone completed an online survey. Patient-reported quality was assessed Patient Observer Scar Assessment Scale (POSAS), BREAST-Q. Independent-samples t-tests were conducted compare BREAST-Q scores between (POSAS overall opinion score 1–3) 4–10). Results A total 248 Women significantly worse ‘Satisfaction breasts,’ ‘Physical well-being,’ ‘Psychosocial well-being’ and, ‘Sexual compared ( p ≤ 0.001). Conclusion After reconstructions, a clinically relevant statistically significant lower degree symptoms. We therefore recommend explicitly repeatedly address inevitability aiming improve preoperative patient selection post-operative expectation management.
