ABSTRACT
To describe the use of radiology in emergency department (ED) a trauma centre during mass casualty incident, using minimum acceptable care (MAC) strategy which CT was restricted to potentially severe head injuries. We retrospectively studied initial imaging on patients triaged following twin terrorist attacks Norway 22 July 2011.Nine from explosion and 15 shooting were included. Fourteen had an Injury Severity Score >15. During first h, 22/24 underwent ED. All gunshot plain films taken ED, compared three explosion. A performed 18/24 patients; ten these completed ED included five non-head CTs, latter representing deviations MAC strategy. No referrals delayed or declined. Mobilisation personnel resulted tripling staff.Plain film capacity never exceeded despite An updated disaster management plan will require radiologist cancel CTs until no additional MCI are expected.• Minimum should replace normal routines incidents. • implied reduced (ED). suspected injuries MAC.
