ABSTRACT
Abstract Purpose To analyze recent trends of surgical access routes, length hospital stay (LOS), and mortality in kidney transplantation (KT) living donor nephrectomy (LDN) Germany. Materials methods We studied the nationwide German billing database quality reports from 2006 to 2021. Results There were a total 35.898 KTs. In total, 9044 (25%) transplantations, while 26.854 (75%) transplantations after donation brain death (DBD). The share open LDN decreased 82% 22% 2020 (− 4%/year; p < 0.001). laparoscopic increased 18% 70% (+ 3%/year; robotic 0% 8% 0.6%/year; Robotic-assisted KT 5 cases 2016 13 procedures 2019 ( = 0.2). LOS was shorter KT, i.e., 18 ± 12.1 days versus 21 19.6 for DBD renal Moreover, differed (9 3.1 vs. 8 2.9 6 2.6; 0.031). overall in-hospital 0.16% n 5) LDN, 0.47% 42) 1.8% 475) KT. Conclusions is an increasing trend toward minimal-invasive years. Overall, low However, deceased healthy donors LKD caution that risks this procedure should also be taken very seriously.
