ABSTRACT
In contrast to fast-twitch skeletal muscle fibers of the chicken, slow-twitch are fatigue-resistant. fast fibers, fatigue process has been related K(ATP) channels. present study, we investigated action glibenclamide (an anti-diabetic sulphonylurea that acts on channels) fatigued slow muscle, studying twitch and tetanus tension after inducing by continuous electrical stimulation. Our results showed (150 μM) increased post-fatigue about 25% with respect condition (P < 0.05). addition, tetanic (83.61 ± 15.7% in peak tension, 85.0 19.0% tension-time integral, P = 0.02, 0.04, respectively; n 3). Moreover, exposing a inhibits mitochondrial ATP formation order activate channels cyanide (10 mM), also diminished, but presence effect produced was abolished. To determine possible increase intracellular calcium concentration, effects caffeine-evoked contractures were explored. After pre-incubation μM), (6.5 1.5% maximal 5.9 3.8% These suggest role process, since increases chicken during metabolic inhibition, possibly increasing calcium.
