ABSTRACT
The duodenum as primary site for gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) is rare and mitotic rate, tumor size, type of mutation number chromosomal aberrations have prognostic implications. We analyzed the outcome 13 patients with duodenal GISTs who underwent surgical resection. Either segmental duodenectomy or pylorus-preserving duodenopancreatectomy was performed. were histopathologically examined risk progression assessed based on size count. Additionally, analysis KIT PDGFRA receptor tyrosine kinase genes comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) performed in all cases.Eight five treated duodenopancreatectomy. None low no malignancy according to Miettinen classification developed progress. In contrast, eight cases (62.5%) high-risk revealed progress, four these died (50%). median overall survival 66 months, disease-free 41 months. operative procedure did not correlate long-term survival. CGH displayed -15q 12/13 tumors, -1p 11/13 characteristic intestinal origin. Notably, -22q present three progress. Both are appropriate options treat GIST should be implemented depending resectability patient's performing state. findings clinical course.
