ABSTRACT
Abstract Common infectious agents, such as Toxoplasma gondii ( T. gondii) and several human herpes viruses, have been linked to increased risk of self-harm. The aim this study was investigate the associations between self-harm seropositivity , Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), Herpes Simplex Type 1 (HSV-1), Cytomegalovirus (CMV). IgM IgG antibodies these infections were measured in Health 2000 project nationally representative whole Finnish adult population, 6250 participants, age 30 over, followed for 15 years via registers. In addition, lifetime suicidal ideation suicide attempts based on medical records interview assessed within a subsample 694 participants screened substudy possible psychotic symptoms or controls. Among 14 individuals died an additional 4 had diagnosis intentional during follow-up. Serological evidence acute not found be associated with outcomes. However, subsample, those seropositive CMV fewer compared seronegative, adjusting gender, age, educational level, childhood family size, regional residence, CRP, screen status (OR multiple = 0.40, 95% confidence interval 0.20‒0.83, p 0.014). To conclude, common death by diagnoses at 15-year follow-up general population sample. Our finding number among persons seronegative calls further research.
