ABSTRACT
A total of 17 Y-specific STR loci were studied in 12 districts the European part Russia aiming to ascertain amount substructure required for construction a representative regional database. All groups exhibited high haplotype diversities but low inter-population variance as measured by an analysis molecular variance. However, when Western is taken whole, genetic distances neighbouring populations significant. Whereas gradual change Y chromosome pool exists between and Slavic-speaking West, remarkable discontinuities observed with East, North South.
