Age differences in the association between stressful work and sickness absence among full-time employed workers: evidence from the German socio-economic panel

ABSTRACT
We aim to extend current knowledge on associations between stressful work and sickness absence, first, by studying ERI absence among full-time employees from various occupations, second, investigating if vary age. use data four waves of the German socio-economic panel (GSOEP), collected men women 2006 2012, with 9418 observations. Stressful is measured a short form questionnaire. investigate an imbalance effort reward (ER ratio) as well two main components ("high effort" "low reward"). Sickness self-reported number days (assessed following year). After descriptive analyses, we estimate series multivariable regressions, including tests for interactions age stress. Each three indicators related higher days, except "high in case men. Findings remain significant after adjusting social position (income, education occupational class) health. In addition, both women, were slightly older workers, though did not reach statistical significance. Our findings support that linked across wide spectrum jobs varying incomes educational levels, also are more pronounced workers.
