ABSTRACT
Abstract Purpose We compared the effects of low-volume combined aerobic and resistance high-intensity interval training (C-HIIT), moderate-intensity continuous (C-MICT) waitlist control (CON) on vascular health after 8-weeks supervised training, an additional 10-months self-directed in adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Methods Sixty-nine low active T2D were randomised to C-HIIT (3 times/week, 78-min/week), C-MICT (current exercise guidelines, 4 210-min/week) or CON. CON underwent usual care for before being re-randomised C-MICT. This was followed by participants Vascular outcomes evaluated at baseline, 8-weeks, 12-months. Results After significantly improved relative flow-mediated dilation (FMD) (mean difference [MD] 0.8% [0.1, 1.4], p = 0.025). Although not different from CON, magnitude change FMD following similar (MD [–0.1, 1.7], 0.080). There no differences haemodynamic indices, carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV), aortic reservoir pressure between groups 8-weeks. 12-months, there a significant reduction indices (time effect, < 0.05) both C-MICT, between-group difference. The cfPWV over 12-months greater than (group × time 0.018). Conclusions Short-term increased brachial artery Long-term beneficial improving but FMD. superior Trial Registration: Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry Identifier ACTRN12615000475549.
