Translation and Validation of the Dysphagia Handicap Index in Polish-Speaking Patients

ABSTRACT
Dysphagia Handicap Index (DHI) is a self-assessment questionnaire which consists of 25 statements to examine three aspects dysphagia patients' quality life (QoL): functional, physical, and emotional. The patient can get maximum score 100 points. study goal was validate translate the Polish version DHI (PL-DHI). One hundred seventy-eight (178) individuals with oropharyngeal different etiology 35 (thirty-five) asymptomatic adults no history swallowing disorders filled out PL-DHI. Internal consistency determined using Cronbach alpha coefficient, high for total PL-DHI (0.962). reproducibility (r-Spearman correlation coefficient 0.97 score). PL-DHI's its subscales were significantly higher in patients group (SG) than healthy controls (CG) (SG median: 36; CG 4). A strong observed between self-reported severity measure (Spearman's 0.859, p < 0.001). reliable valid assessing QoL.
