ABSTRACT
Single-site laparoscopic colectomy (SLC) is an emerging concept that, compared with conventional multiport (MLC), yields reduced postoperative pain and improved cosmesis. Complete mesocolic excision (CME) a novel for colon cancer surgery that provides oncologic outcomes; however, there are no reports of SLC CME. We conducted prospective case-control study to evaluate the feasibility safety CME cancer.Prospectively collected data patients stage I-III who underwent (n = 150) or MLC between June 2008 March 2012 were analyzed. Patients were, in terms clinical characteristics tumor location, matched as closely possible those undergoing MLC. Within each group, classified having right-sided 69 group) left-sided 81 cancer, short-term outcomes two procedures overall per side.Overall perioperative outcomes, including operation time, blood loss, number lymph nodes harvested, length resected specimen, complications, similar procedures, whereas was significantly lower SLC. Operation time shortened. completed successfully 94 % (65/69) cases 88 (71/81) cases. Conversion rates 1.4 (1/69) 1.1 (1/81), respectively. The umbilical scars nearly invisible 3 months after procedure, most reported being quite satisfied cosmetic outcomes.SLC feasible when performed by experienced surgeons selected patients. Excellent cosmesis well clearance can be expected. A large-scale, prospective, randomized, controlled trial should confirm superiority this procedure over
