ABSTRACT
Abstract Introduction In an Expert Consensus guided by systematic review, the panel agreed that for open elective incisional hernia repair, sublay mesh location is preferred, but intraperitoneal onlay (IPOM) may be useful in certain settings. This analysis of data from Herniamed Registry aimed to compare outcomes IPOM and technique. Methods Propensity score matching 9091 patients with repair defect width ≥ 4 cm was performed. The following variables were selected: age, gender, risk factors, ASA score, preoperative pain, size, localization. Results For 1977 7114 n = 1938 (98%) pairs formed. No differences seen between two groups regard intraoperative, postoperative general complications, complication-related reoperations recurrences. But significant disadvantages identified respect pain on exertion (17.1% vs. 13.7%; p 0.007), at rest (10.4% 8.3%; 0.040) chronic requiring treatment (8.8% 5.8%; < 0.001), addition rates 3.8%, 1.1% 1.1%, respectively, occurring both matched patients. relationship tacker fixation identified. There are only very few reports literature comparable findings. Conclusion Compared appears pose a higher pain. finding concords recommending should preferably repaired using
