ABSTRACT
Objectives To translate the functional index for hand osteoarthritis (FIHOA) into Italian and to evaluate its reliability validity in patients with (HOA). Methods The original French FIHOA was translated according guidelines cross-cultural adaptation then administered 72 outpatients HOA, together visual analogue scale of pain (VAS), Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ) Short Form Survey (SF-36). Test–retest verified by having all fill out version again 1 week later. Item–item analysis performed. Wilcoxon signed-rank test Spearman's rank correlation coefficient were calculated compare retest responses degree correlation. Internal consistency evaluated Cronbach's alpha coefficient, internal structure appraised through factor analysis, also taking a varimax rotation consideration. Construct assessed correlating other measures impairment using coefficient. Results high (Cronbach's α = 0.87). showed rho 0.942 (p < 0.001). A significant 0.001) between FIHOA, VAS HAQ negative SF-36 subscales observed. confirmed be non-unidimensional scale, but addition total score index, three subtotals item scores considered provide better evaluations finger functionality (items 3, 6, 8 10), wrist 2 7) strength 4 5) single individuals. Conclusions is reliable valid instrument evaluating disability Italian-speaking HOA patients.
