The effects of health shocks on labor market outcomes: evidence from UK panel data

ABSTRACT
This study examines the link between health shocks and labor market outcomes in United Kingdom. For sample periods of up to 9 years, I use longitudinal data from British Household Panel Survey test how sudden affect a number outcomes, such as household income, employment status, hours worked. Additionally, potential mechanisms underlying declines outcomes. By estimating propensity score matching difference-in-differences models, shows that lead significant persistent reductions earnings. The effects are strongest for individuals experiencing severe shocks, males, with higher education those working managerial jobs.
