ABSTRACT
This study evaluated the validity of endorectal ultrasonography in predicting rectal infiltration patients with deep pelvic endometriosis.Patients were recruited consecutively Department Surgical Gynecology Diaconesses Hospital from April 1996 to July 2003. Inclusion criteria suspicion endometriosis on basis outpatient history and/or clinical symptoms a mass palpable bimanual examination that might infiltrate wall. There no exclusion criteria. Endorectal was performed by same investigator 7.5-MHz 10-MHz rigid probe, producing 360 degrees view wall and adjacent areas. We used surgical histopathologic findings as "gold standard" evaluate ultrasonography. This based 37 (mean age, 35.8 (range, 26-46) years) who underwent surgery. The time between surgery ranged 4 529 (mean, 88.7) days. Eight had nodules penetrating showed sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative value 87.5, 97, 97 percent, respectively, diagnosis endometriosis.Endorectal is reliable technique for visualizing endometriosis. It should be more widely gynecologists because knowing about before fundamental defining best possible approach.
