ABSTRACT
Seprafilm (Genzyme Biosurgery, Cambridge, MA) remains a widely used product in postoperative adhesion prevention. This study was designed to compare the antiadhesive effects of taurolidine, heparin, and murine cecal abrasion model.Sixty male Balb/c mice underwent procedure were randomized into four groups (n = 15 each). Groups T, H, S animals intraperitoneally received Seprafilm, respectively, Group C reserved as control. Animals killed on Day 21, severity adhesions evaluated with scoring system ranging between 0 5. In addition, localizations questioned.Five (1 4 H) died before they killed. The deaths related intra-abdominal bleeding, mortality rate significantly higher H than those other (P < 0.05 for each comparison). less C, T located cecum over itself control group, small bowel lower group comparison). All products are effective Heparin use provides best results but may be associated bleeding. Taurolidine an alternative , further studies required.
