ABSTRACT
Three genetic similarity coefficients were estimated and compared for their usefulness: simple matching (S SM), Jaccard's J) Dice's D), all based on dominant markers data from individuals representing predominantly self-pollinating species. AFLP used to analyze 139 Phaseolus vulgaris L. (common bean) 67 Lactuca saligna (least lettuce) accessions, RAPD 110 Triticum dicoccoides Koern. (wild emmer wheat) accessions. Similar discriminating structure power the three was found each of This high both P. but moderate T. dicoccoides. With closely related individuals, as in our study, absence a band two should be due an identical cause inherited same ancestor. Accordingly we propose use S SM, which alone out examined involved shared DNA bands, contributing similarity. When RAPDs are employed, inferences about population nucleotide divergence made with prudence nature variation uncovered by is often unclear.
