High patient satisfaction with a simplified BRCA1/2 testing procedure: long-term results of a prospective study

ABSTRACT
In the BRCAsearch study, unselected breast cancer patients were prospectively offered germline BRCA1/2 mutation testing through a simplified procedure. The purpose of present study was to evaluate satisfaction with procedure and, furthermore, report on uptake rates prophylactic surgeries among carriers. Pre-test information provided by standardized invitation letter instead in-person genetic counseling. contact counselor for telephone counseling if they felt need that. Mutation carriers telephoned and given time face-to-face post-test appointment. Non-carriers informed about test result letter. One year after results delivered, study-specific questionnaire mailed participants who had consented testing. response rate 83.1% (448 539).
