Gambling at Work: A Qualitative Study of Swedish Elite Athletes, Coaches, and Managers

ABSTRACT
Considering the financial connections between sport and gambling industry, more should be learned about problem in this setting. This study explores how male athletes, coaches, sports managers experience activities problems their sports. Interviews were conducted with 30 elite four The interviews analysed using content analysis, results indicated two main themes: 1) desire for concerns money 2) shadow of performance, three categories. first theme emerged as a result respondents recurring reference to reason different actions: It is important win money,'too little' or 'too much' described gambling, athletes status affected by sponsor from companies are considered important. 'In performance' captures value performance: thrill rewards everyday sporting life emphasizes performance both training matches. Lack successful perceived threat evokes fear being seen weak ejected team. identifies normalized within sport. Preventing calls action at all levels involved socio-ecological framework.
