ABSTRACT
The present work emphasizes on synthesis of metal incorporated mesoporous MCM-48 materials and evaluates their catalytic activity towards styrene oxidation. Ti and Cr loaded MCM-48 materials with varying Si to Ti or Cr molar ratios have been synthesized by one step hydrothermal method. The prepared catalysts were characterized using various techniques such as XRD, FT-IR, UV–Vis DRS, N2 adsorption–desorption and SEM–EDX analysis. Catalytic activity of the synthesized materials towards the liquid phase oxidation of styrene was performed in presence of aqueous hydrogen peroxide as oxidant where benzaldehyde was obtained as major product. The effect of various reaction parameters viz. temperature, catalyst amount, styrene to H2O2 molar ratio etc. were studied to observe the change in styrene conversion as well as selectivity towards benzaldehyde.
