ABSTRACT
In this study, we investigated whether parental smoking-specific communication is related to adolescents’ friendship-selection processes. Furthermore, adolescents and their best friends influence each other over time, what role parents play in process. the present study used data from Family Health project which at baseline 428 full families participated. 2-year, three-wave longitudinal were available fathers, mothers, early (aged M = 13.4 years, SD .50), middle 15.2 .60). The majority of participating Dutch origin (>95%). There was an almost equal distribution boys girls, with lower, middle, higher educational levels equally represented. Analyses conducted by means Structural Equation Modeling. Results demonstrate that a high quality lower likelihood adolescent smoking, whereas frequency positively associated smoking. Both selective affiliation (non-)smoking friends. findings suggest smoking directly but also indirectly influencing will associate with.
