ABSTRACT
In the framework of the SPIRAL2 project at GANIL, the Super-Separator-Spectrometer (S3) is dedicated to experiments using the very high intensity stable beams (>10 pµA) delivered by the superconducting linear accelerator up to 14.5 A.MeV. Specific target stations are required to sustain these unprecedented beam intensities. A prototype target station for actinides was designed and manufactured, which main characteristics are described in this paper. In order to commission this system and check the behavior of target materials, preliminary tests with 7.7 A.MeV 129Xe beams were performed at 100 pnA. The results of these tests are presented here.
