Mycetoma in the Togolese: An Update from a Single-Center Experience

ABSTRACT
Mycetoma is a chronic inflammatory process caused either by fungi (eumycetoma) or bacteria (actinomycetoma). In this retrospective study, we report epidemiologic and histopathological data of mycetoma observed in the Lome Hospital, Togo 25-year period (1992-2016).This over 25 years, to analyze epidemiological etiological findings mycetomas seen single laboratory pathological anatomy Lomé, Togo.A total 61 cases were retrieved from which only 33 included where clinically microbiologically confirmed. The mean age patients was 29.7 ± 1.34 sex ratio (M/F) 1.5. majority farmers (n = 23 cases; 69.7%). Diagnosed etiologic agents fungal 24 (72.7%) actinomycotic 9 (27.3%). consisted Madurella mycetomatis (black grains) Falcifomispora senegaliensis grains). represented Actinomadura madurae (white grains), Actinomadurae pelletieri (red Nocardia sp. (yellow grains).This represents single-center study provides Togo.
