Pharmacists working in residential aged care: a survey of pharmacist interest and perceived preparedness

ABSTRACT
Abstract Background Pharmacists involvement in residential aged care facilities has traditionally been limited to that of an external contractor providing medication reviews, or supply. Aim To explore Australian pharmacists’ interest and perceived preparedness work as on-site pharmacists care. Method National cross-sectional anonymous online survey open for two weeks (September 17th October 1st 2022) consisting Likert-type, multiple choice selection questions. were recruited using a broad advertising strategy which included social traditional media platforms, snowball sampling. Data collected on pharmacist self-reported analysed descriptive statistics. Results Responses received from 720 participants, 643 eligible. Most participants female (n = 466, 73%) mean (SD) age was 43.5 (SD 12.5) years. Over half the interested extremely working (56%, n 360), agreed strongly 475, 76%) they felt prepared pharmacist. engage variety roles within (> 73% each role), including resident system level roles, majority with stakeholders, general practitioners (93%) medical specialists (86%).
