ABSTRACT
To evaluate the use of preoperative virtual Magnetic Resonance Elastography (vMRE) for patients undergoing transsphenoidal resection pituitary adenomas (PA).Ten (60.2 ± 19.6 years; 8 males) were prospectively examined with vMRE-method prior to surgery. vMRE-images, reflecting tissue stiffness reconstructed. From these images, histograms as well mean values over tumor body extracted. Finally, vMRE-data was compared PA consistency at surgery blinded vMRE.In all patients, successful vMRE-examination performed enabling evaluation even small PAs. For tumors homogenous tissue, value increased surgical grading. heterogenous tumors, however, did not consistently reflect grading On other hand, vMRE-images and found be able characterize heterogeneity display focal regions high that affect outcome in The showed great promise characterizing PAs.Evaluation preparation seems feasible using vMRE-method. Our findings also address need resolution diagnostic methods can non-invasively stiffness, such may increase difficulty PA-resection.
