Discovering urban nature: citizen science and biodiversity on a university campus

ABSTRACT
Abstract Preserving biodiversity is a paramount global concern and, in this regard, monitoring urban has increasingly taken on significant role. Citizen science emerged as resource for addressing challenge, offering cost-effective approach capable of producing extensive data while promoting public engagement. In work, Lisbon university campus was used to determine the effectiveness citizen project launched BioDiversity4All/iNaturalist platform monitor and analyse influence different engagement actions observations. The analysis based observations, including temporal evolution most frequently observed taxonomic groups, impact promotional data. Additionally, profiles observers were analyzed assess their level continued involvement science. had an effect increase number it also possible see positive organized activities. two indices showed that Researchers Students observer categories responding project, followed by Naturalists Others. results highlighted capacity interest among both community general public. Furthermore, work underlines role strategies such BioBlitzes, social media campaigns, formal education activities reduce relevant limitations associated with science, namely taxonomic, aesthetic, biases.
