ABSTRACT
Mass spectrometry-based serum metabolic profiling is a promising tool to analyse complex cancer associated alterations, which may broaden our pathophysiological understanding of the disease and function as source new cancer-associated biomarkers. Highly standardized samples patients suffering from colon (n = 59) controls 58) were collected at University Hospital Leipzig. We based investigations on amino acid screening profiles using electrospray tandem-mass spectrometry. Metabolic evaluated Analyst 1.4.2 software. General, comparative equivalence statistics performed by R 2.12.2. 11 out 26 concentrations significantly different between colorectal healthy controls. found model including CEA, glycine, tyrosine best discriminating superior CEA alone with an AUROC 0.878 (95% CI 0.815–0.941). Our in revealed multiple significant disease-associated alterations profile diagnostic power. Further large-scale studies are necessary elucidate potential also discriminate differential diagnoses. In conclusion, glycine combination for discrimination
