ABSTRACT
Abstract Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative (ND) that represents the principal cause of dementia. Effective treatment still lacking. Without prevention, incidence expected to triple within 30 years. The risk increases in highly polluted areas and positively linked chronic aluminum (Al) exposure. Canonical Wingless-Int (Wnt)/β-catenin pathway has been found play considerable role ND pathogenesis. Resins Boswellia serrata (frankincense) have used traditionally for their psychoactive activity, addition memory-boosting effects. Boswellic acids (BA) are pentacyclic triterpenes. They antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antinociceptive, immunomodulatory activities. This study aimed elucidate Wnt/β-catenin BA protective activity against aluminum-induced disease. For 6 weeks, rats were treated daily with AlCl3 (100 mg/kg/i.p.) either alone or (125 250 mg/kg PO). Results indicated significantly improved learning memory impairments induced by AlCl 3 treatment. Moreover, decreased acetylcholinesterase levels reduced amyloid-beta (Aβ) expression. In addition, ameliorated increased expression tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), inhibited lipid peroxidation, total antioxidants brain. Indeed, suppressed -induced decrease brain-derived neurotrophic factor, pGSK-3β (Ser 9), β-catenin.
