ABSTRACT
Abstract The phenomenon of cryptic species is widespread among various fungal lineages. Fomes inzengae (Ces. & De Not.) Cooke has been recently recognized as a South European kin wood-decay basidiomycete F. fomentarius (L.) Fr. due to the problematic morphological identification both species, their taxonomic status disputed. aim this research examine distribution, host preferences, characters, and phylogenetic relationships between in Moravian region Czechia (Central Europe), where occur sympatrically. results revealed ecological preferences spp. along an altitudinal gradient, while lowland taxon, dominates at higher altitudes forests with abundant Fagus sylvatica . main contact zone two taxa located upper-colline vegetation belt (elevation ca. 400‒550 m a.s.l.). analysis that basidiospore size, width skeletal hyphae basidiomes, linear density pores are almost identical can not be used for species. Multigene sequence analyses ITS, LSU, RPB1, RPB2, TEF1 markers confirmed phylogenetically distinct relationship Globifomes graveolens Hexagonia discussed.
