ABSTRACT
In a highly publicized joint report, the National Academy of Engineering and Institute Medicine recently recommended systematic application systems engineering approaches for reforming our health care delivery system. For this to happen, medical professionals managers need understand appreciate power that concepts tools can bring redesigning improving environments practices. To present discuss fundamental important parallels between engineering, services, implementation research as it pertains complex patients. An exploratory, qualitative review overview ongoing applications these in areas hemodialysis, radiation therapy, patient flow modeling. paper, we describe process identifying system interest, choosing appropriate performance measures, selecting best modeling tool, studying model properties behavior under variety scenarios, making design operational decisions implementation. We challenges opportunities bringing people with skills into care.
